The task of printing diplomas for nearly 8 lakh students of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will become easier as a new printing machine has been acquired by the university to make the process smoother. The new machine inaugurated this week will be able to print 40,000 diplomas in one day.
In the past, there have been considerable delays in the holding of the graduation ceremony due to the delay in printing the certificates, considering the volume of work. The old printing machine had a limited capacity and only 500 documents could be loaded at one time, said Mahesh Kakade, director of the examination and assessment department of SPPU.
There are more than 650 affiliated colleges in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik which are affiliated with SPPU, in addition to its own departments, which together have about 8 lakh students who receive grade sheets as well as degree certificates from the ‘university.
“To this end, the university decided to purchase this machine with the aim of making the certificate available to all students in time. The new machine can load 8,000 papers at a time. Besides saving time, the print quality will also be better. Also, time will be saved as image processing will be faster,” Kakade said.
Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Karbhari Kale said the idea was to make the Examinations Department more competent in its operation.
